Selsey Academy Fire - Update 24 August 09:00

Tom Garfield, Headteacher at The Academy Selsey, commented:

“Following the devastating fire on Sunday, we have been working with all of our partners, including TKAT, to manage the situation at The Academy Selsey and to implement our contingency plans quickly. Once again, I would just like to reiterate my thanks to all those who have extended offers of help and support to us, including the Department for Education and local authorities. We have also had an overwhelming response both in person and via social media.

“As West Sussex Fire Service commented this morning, the most likely cause of the fire was accidental ignition. As we have already noted today, our priority is to minimise disruption and the impact the aftermath of the fire on the provision of education for all of our pupils. We are doing this through our continued work with the Department for Education, TKAT and local authorities. In partnership with them, we have been able to take huge steps forward in firming up plans for the provision of education at the start of the autumn term. As a consequence, we will be in a position to announce these plans shortly.”
